Did you get what you wanted this year? I don’t mean under the Christmas tree – though I hope your day was lovely, whatever it held for you.
What I mean is your hopes, your dreams, your goals, your plans – for your work, your impact, your satisfaction, your income.
Did things go as you wanted them to?
Maybe yes, maybe no, maybe not yet or not quite…
Whatever this year was like for you, now is a perfect time to reflect.

Why Review Your Year?
Sometimes, when you’re in the middle of something, it’s hard to see any change or growth. You might not notice all of your little victories on a day-to-day basis, but when you look back over a whole year, you might be surprised by how far you’ve come. Even if some things have not gone as you hoped, try to look with an optimistic eye – you’re starting 2023 not from scratch, but from experience.
Here’s how I suggest reviewing your year in 5 steps:
1. Collect…
Your memories. A year is a long time in business –it’s easy to forget everything you’ve achieved. Make a list. And don’t downplay the little things. If you found something silly hard at first, and now you don’t, that’s a success!
2. Celebrate…
Your wins. What you celebrate, you attract more of. Running a business is not for the faint-hearted, particularly when you’re juggling many other roles in your life. Allow yourself to be proud of whatever you’ve achieved and you’ll gain the strength to keep going.
3. Consider…
Your misses. What could have gone better, and how can you improve? Looking honestly at mistakes and “failures,” learning from them, and letting them go will revitalise your mindset and help you to move on.
4. Crunch…
Those numbers! Whatever your business, there are figures that matter. It could be the number of clients you’ve worked with, events you’ve attended, followers on social media, unique readers on your blog… hard data give you tangible evidence of how your business is performing. They also allow you to set defined goals for next year.
5. Continue…
Your journey. Here’s the best bit, planning what’s next. Having done a review, you can get on the right track for next year. Setting good goals is much easier when you can clearly see how you got on trying to achieve your goals in the previous year.
I love following this process because you end up with something much better than a New Year’s resolution. Something that will serve you, not the other way around.
